How to Obtain a Tanzanian Visa | Yemeni Nationals
Nationals of all countries outside East Africa should be advised that a visa is required for legal entry into Tanzania. While Tanzanian Immigration is indeed able to issue visas on arrival to the majority of applicants, visitors are nonetheless advised to attempt to obtain their Tanzanian visa ahead of travelling to East Africa.
The reason that obtaining a visa in advance is recommended is that Tanzanian Immigration reserves the right to deny visas to applicants at the port of attempted entry, and is not required to offer reasons for such decisions. KR has learned that the most likely applicants to be turned away when attempting to obtain a visa on arrival are visitors of Middle-Eastern, Arabic and North African appearance, name or nationality.
Award of Tanzanian Visas Now Dependent on Political Views of Applicants
Additionally, senior Immigration officials in Dar es Salaam have recently asserted that they may deny visas to persons expressing political views that differ from those of their own. We know of a case that occurred in June 2012 in which the Commissioner for Immigration at Dar es Salaam required – as a condition of entry - a prospective visitor to write a letter of apology for expressing views that suggested that recent changes in security procedure (specifically, the required submission by all visitors of their fingerprints) was not motivated by Tanzanian political interests but was initiated in response to demands negotiated by the USA and imposed by the IMF, as a condition of being granted a loan in 2008. Applicants for visas on arrival are therefore strongly advised to refrain from any discussions with Immigration officials that may be construed to have political connotations.
